Its color is brown, with the nape of light color and the shoulders with light spots. Its tail has no white elements. Females are somewhat older than males. This species is located almost exclusively in the Iberian Peninsula, where it lives all year round, defending its territory with great zeal. Its ideal habitats are the typically Mediterranean sclerophyll forest areas, where scrub, grassland and streams intermingle. It is present above all in the low countryside of the center and south of the Iberian Peninsula. They nest in trees and are lovers of their territory, in which they have several nests used in rotation. These nests, depending on the available trees (normally cork oaks and pines), can be high up and also low. At the beginning of the year, he begins his striking procession, so that by March the couples are consolidated. It is at this time, during reproduction, that the imperial eagle is most sensitive to the human presence. May even abandon spawn if disturbed and nest again in a quieter spot. The two or three chicks hatch in early June, after a 43-day incubation. At 35 days they have full plumage, and at 6 months they fly already, returning the first times to the nest to sleep. Contrary to what happens with golden eagles, the two chicks usually reach adulthood, exceptionally even three, although in times of scarcity they also practice cainism. When the parents must leave the nest, they cover the eggs or chicks with green twigs. After two months, the chicks move away from the nest, still being watched by the parents. This tutelage is lessened, becoming aggressive behavior, which forces the young to disperse. They will return at three or four years old, converted into adults, to breed near the area where they were born. Only 6 years old reach the plumage of adult imperial eagles. Compared to the golden eagle, its claws are weaker, dedicating itself to hunting smaller animals, which it almost always attacks on the ground. They are basically ground squirrels, rabbits and hares. They are known to attack farmyard geese as well. Sometimes the couple goes out to hunt; while one raises the prey the other captures it.
