These are worked pebbles whose chronology can be situated between 1 million and 400,000 years ago, although it is known, as demonstrated by Professor Enrique Vallesp\u00ed, that they continued to be manufactured in later periods of that epoch. From the Acheulean Industry, bifaces traditionally stand out, so called because they present two carved faces and a wide cutting edge surrounding most of the piece, and commonly known as \u201chand axes.\u201d From that Acheulean industry, we also find other tools such as flakes, trihedrals and choppers. <\/span><\/p>\n The main reason why Paleolithic man must have frequented these lands was the fact that in the landscapes of Almod\u00f3var he found an important and abundant source of raw material for the manufacture of his tools: quartzite pebbles, to which other natural, plant and faunal resources would have to be added, with which he also manufactured utensils or food. Vallesp\u00ed alludes to the fact that the first settlers of the Iberian Peninsula \u201cfocused their attention on networks of local settlements in resource areas and lived together with a multitude of animals, undoubtedly highlighting elephants, of which numerous remains have been found in areas near the Guadalquivir, such as Alcolea or Almod\u00f3var del R\u00edo.\u201d The oldest pieces manufactured in our locality by our ancestors come from the mouth of the Temple stream and Los Mochos.
