Ce poisson mesure g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement entre 20 et 35 cm, maximum environ 40 cm et p\u00e8se environ 1 kg, d\u00e9passe rarement 2 kg. Il se nourrit d\u2019invert\u00e9br\u00e9s benthiques, d\u2019insectes et de mat\u00e9riel v\u00e9g\u00e9tal. Le carpin a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduit dans de nombreuses eaux, intentionnellement ou accidentellement, comme poisson-app\u00e2t. La capture de carpines est plus probable depuis les premi\u00e8res chaleurs du printemps jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la saison de reproduction (en mai), puis jusqu\u2019au d\u00e9but de l\u2019automne.<\/p>\n
