Municipal Archaeological Exhibition

The Municipal Archaeological Exhibition, located in La Barca Street (the old market square), highlights and interprets through archaeological pieces the history of Almodóvar del Río from its first settlers to the Islamic period (Middle Ages). The exhibition consists of two rooms:

Prehistory (Lower, Middle and Upper Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic). You can contemplate the first industries and the people who made them, the advances of the Neolithic and the Chalcolithic settlements, highlighting among its pieces bifaces, carved stones, barquiform mill and fusayolas, as well as recreating a Neolithic hut.

From the ancient world to the Islamic era. The Ibero-Turdet culture, the arrival of the Romans, the development of mining and its commercial activity, the Visigothic vestiges and the Muslim splendour. The exhibits include Iberian votive offerings and ceramics, amphorae handles with seals, terra sigillata, Roman numismatics and Andalusian ceramics. Here there is also a reproduction of an Iberian house to recreate the habitat of that period.
