Old pier

(Portus Romano)

Audio-guide

On the banks of the River Guadalquivir as it passes through the town there are remains of an ancient wharf that may be of Roman origin.

It has traditionally been a place of embarkation to cross the river before the construction of the bridge over the CO-3313. In the nearby farmhouses of Villaseca and El Temple, among others, remains have been found of Roman villas, ovens and potteries for oil amphorae destined to be exported in boats along the Guadalquivir.

The surroundings offer a privileged situation to observe the flora and fauna of the riverbank and magnificent views of the river and the castle.
