Iberis Ciliata

Perennial plant up to 30 centimeters, erect, of the family Cruciferae. Leaves linear, sharp. Well developed axillary shoots. Inflorescence flat and dense corymb, contracted at fruiting. Flowers zigomorfas in terminal corimbo ebraceteado. Sepals not persistent in fruiting, the sides slightly gibose at the base. Spatulate petals, purplish. Bilocular ovary. Stigma capitate. Its flower is purplish and the leaves linear, acute apex. Fruits up to 6 mm, oval to orbicular, winged from the base, triangular, erect or somewhat convergent, sharp notch, style clearly exert. It blooms from May to July It has three subspecies. Iberis ciliata ciliata occupies limestone substrates, its petals are white and the leaves are oblong spatulate or linear spatulate, with obtuse or subacute apex. The subspecies Iberis ciliata contracta, instead, lives in pebbly or sandy substrates, siliceous, or decarbonized limestones, in dry places of sunny in half shade; also on fossil dunes. It reaches a height of about 40 cm. The leaves and roots are used for their medicinal properties. It is cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant.
